CLICK ON THUMBNAILS TO SEE LARGER PICTURE Encased in netted rope, these hollow floating coloured glass spheres were used to support fishermen's nets and to mark lobster pots for retrieval from the seabed. Today they are commonly used as interesting decor. Each is hand-blown to create an authentic bullseye at the cut-off point - no two are identical hence measurements are approximate.

The 'fouled anchor' symbol is incorporated in many naval emblems, despite being a situation which sailors take every care to avoid. 7" tall, weight over 1-lb.
Square-rigged sailing ships had several miles of rigging that involved thousands of knots - from simple hitches to ornate Turk's Heads. In learning to tie them, apprentices found that knotboards served as useful references and displays of their skill. Today they are popular showpieces in yacht clubs, restaurants, pubs and homes. Our knotboards are made by skilled, efficient craftsmen who reproduce the ancient skills The knots are tied in natural cotton cord on a black velveteen background and displayed in glassfronted wood frames with chunky brass corners.

Carefully weighted glass globes are suspended in a liquid-filled tube, where they sedately sink or float as the surrounding air gets hotter or colder. Temperature is indicated by the engraved brass tag on the lowest floating globe. 7096 Galileo Thermometer - Picollo Multi Coloured 280mm (11") £9.95

Tonnage Board & Commissioning Log. A 19th-century Act of Parliament still in force, commands that on every British ship "her official number and the number denoting her registered tonnage, shall be cut into the main beam". On yachts particularly those up to 45ft (13.7m) maritime authority surveyors generally accept a brass plate engraved with the official number and registered tonnage. Made in good quality, cast brass and highly polished, the plate should be fitted so that it cannot be easily removed. Bonding with epoxy resin, plus fixing with clutch-head screws, is recommended. Approximately 127x122x5mm (5x4.25X.25")
