5303 "Condor" Working Pond Yacht, £39.95
Condor is a realistic model yacht with adjustable sails and rudder to teach children the principles of sailing. The weighted keel is heavy enough to self-right her in the event of a knockdown, and the jib self-tacks. Moulded plastic hull with wooden deck and spars. 18.5" long, 22.5" tall.
Gaff-rigged for quick handling in shoal waters, with mizzen stepped right aft for manoeuvrability, two foresails and spritsails for the speed to chase fast- swimming thon or tunny, and long arcing booms for handling and spreading nets. A characteristic is the trestled working rack to keep the broad main deck clear for rapid processing of catches to the fish-hold below. Length 16", beam 3.5" and height is 24".
For the price, these models of HMS Victory are astonishingly detailed - the 18" size is virtually indistinguishable from museum quality models costing several hundred pounds! The secret is a new moulding process, which enables our model-builders to create the intricate hull relatively quickly. Most of their efforts can be concentrated on the "bits that make her look right" such as the painting of the hull (by hand), the construction of the wooden deck, and the assembly of the remarkably authentic masts and spars.

Mary Rose was a Tudor warship marking the transition between Elizabethan galleons and the mighty "ships of the line". Built between 1509 and 1511, her carvel (smooth-planked) construction of oak and elm was advanced and strong for the time and permitted the cutting of cannon ports in the hull sides, so that she was one of the first ships able to fire a "broadside" - a considerable factor in her success as a fighting ship. She had served for 34 years when, during an engagement with a French invasion in 1545, she heeled to an unexpected gust and started filling through her cannon ports. Mary Rose sank, within half a mile of the shore, together with most of her crew (who could not swim). She then lay on the seabed for over 400 years until her discovery, buried in
Our models have been extensively researched from drawings, diagrams and the remaining timbers, and have been approved by the Mary Rose Trust.

The innovative moulding process we specify to manufacture the hull of these display models enables us to include an incredible amount of intricate detail at relatively low cost (compared with wood). We have put particular focus on improving the accuracy/scaling of the rigs and fittings such as anchors, cannons and longboats. They come supplied completely assembled ready for display, and accompanied by a history leaflet.

Lighthouses - end of an era! They were masterpieces of engineering and construction, able to withstand and defy the most terrifying elemental forces, but not the dogma of "cost efficiency". Which is why, as of November 1998, manned lighthouses became a closed chapter in
5239 Portrait Hall Mirror with Half-Hull, £29.95
The racing yacht hull mounted on this hall mirror looks complete, but (on reflection!) isn't. It's a half-hull, like those that used to be made between the plan stage and actual building of a ship to visualise the final form in 3D. Her deck acts as a handy shelf for keys, comb etc. Keyhole style fittings for hanging. Height 30", width 16".
Launched in 1903, the Lizzie Porter had a distinguished record of 36 launches saving 77 lives. The white-painted domed buoyancy tanks fore and aft made her self-righting even from a total capsize - a major safety feature - and are a typical feature of the time. She was stored in a boathouse and launched from a horse-drawn trailer. Length 13", beam 4", height 4.5".
